Hi All, i'm in the process of setting up my 500 (1990) indian Bullet and want to confirm if the auto advance unit is working and in good condition.
I have viewed the technical note here but can't work out how to move the plate to inspect them, do i need the removal tool suggested or is there another way?
I am hoping to remove and inspect tomorrow (thursday) or friday morning as i'm off and was going to visit the Host then to collect any parts needed.

Just to get to the a/r unit you need to undo the two pillar bolts that hold the contact breaker plate in place, to remove the unit completely from the drive you might be able to tap the unit with a hammer and drift (lightly!), though not on the bob weights, in order to "break" the tapered fit, without having to use the threaded extractor. Thank you Adrian, my plate feels very tight, hopefully a small adjusting hammer will help.

By the way keep it sound with "light oiling", after you have been in there

You can ease off the points plate a little with some careful filing. It needs to be able to rotate freely in the housing, otherwise timing adjustment will be difficult! A.
