Good day all, currently I am experiencing somewhat of an attainable
challenge.I have been comforted by the fact that this forum's
talents and expertise is leading me to a positive outcome.I am drawn now to at least reciprocate the good nature of this forum by expressing some points that may be helpful.
# Early type distributor with the greasing point, overgreasing can have the effect of dislodging the shaft seal causing excessive grease into the points plate assembly area and disrupting the plate mechanism.
# Distributor shaft end float, depending on the actual float(in&out),
may contact the rear of the cam/points plate assembly. Again the
potential effect is self explanatory. In my case with the Boyer fitted
and end float approx. 2-3mm, the rotor plate had just started to scuff
the solder joints of the rear of the stator/coil plate.
At this stage, I believe shimming the shaft is an option,my next
mission is to find out the correct and practical method.

I hope this helps,by the way my experience with the RE is somewhat
limited, yet again I find it quite refreshing of the value of this
particular fraternity and sorority forum.
All the best....Cheers

Ask what you want anytime, I'm just loving the way you speak/write..

Are you South African educated by any chance? Your use of english is as used in 1950's grammar schools..

Brilliant, honestly, no offence intended.. (smiley insert here)..

Remove timing case cover and drive pinion, shim takes up the distance/slack between pinion and distributer bush..

Ask away old chum..!! There are no silly questions here. You might get a few silly answers though... On the whole, you are in good company here and the volume of knowledge to be gleaned is immeasureable. I've never asked a question here that didn't get answered.

Sal, the answer might be the slightly later version of the "distributor" (actually just a contact breaker drive unit, on a single cylinder engine no spark is being distributed!). The later version as used on the 500 Bullets has the shaft running in two sealed bearings, with no need to grease anything, and they are more robust than the plain bearings which can wear and let the contact breaker shaft slop about.

It just so happens that I have a spare used one laying around in one of my boxes of bits, give me some contact details and I will arrange for it to be posted to you in return for a donation to an appropriate charity.

Adrian,I owe you a sincere apology for my untimely response to your generous
offer.A totally unrelated matter has predisposed my attention.May I say that I
am overwhelmed by your generosity,I bow to your kind nature, this is a trait
rarely seen or experienced in a world shadowed with consumerism. With a sense of
compunction,I respectively am unable to accept your generous offer.Pray,I hope
my unacceptance has not weathered my future requests of assistance nor favoured
displeasing thoughts.

It would appear that there are two schools of thought in setting the stator/
rotor plates of the Boyer. If so I have the opportunity to correct my error and
gain a positive conclusion using the current contact/breaker housing unit.
Before hand I appeal to to the wider forum community to comment on interpretation relating to the two holes 5mm either side of one coil magnet on
the plastic stator plate of the Mk3 Boyer. Feel free to correct my understanding on suggesting that these are alignment holes to reaffirm the
advanced setting 32-28 deg BTDC. In practice one sets the engine at TDC then
marks the stator/rotor(TDC,BTDC) accordingly strobing follows generally, the
final tune after a test ride.

In comparison to : One may set the engine to BTDC then check the advanced setting visually not strobed, through the alignment of a rotor magnet datum
mark to coincide with an aligment hole mentioned on the plastic stator coil
plate. That is engine at BTDC the rotor datum mark aligns with a hole in the
plastic stator plate,if not "tweak" the rotor plate mark to align in the stator plate hole, always keeping to BTDC on the engine/piston.

OR PLAN B If all else fails Gwillys prior comment deserves merit.
Quote " sometimes the simple answer is the right one" end quote.

Please, Please comments welcome. Keep safe. Cheers

No direct answer Gwilly. Not even a slightly wordy or verbose one. I don't recall the use of # in grammar school, that symbol was used to denote a fracture or break (of a bone) back in the day.

No one presents that kind of diction to a forum unless they are having laugh, so come on Sal own up who are you?

Gentlemen, Gentlemen
Forgive me,I am totally out of character.I see my error,I have been blinded by
self acquired enthusiasm to seek assistance, correction, advise, guidance or
believe it or not,to be educated towards a common outcome familiar to many who
positively contribute to this forum.
I was unaware of ones written expressions to suggest a potential air of
suspicion,I am sorry.Nor was I aware that ones written expressions satisfied
an entry of approval as a prerequisite in acceptance as a contributor.
Forgive my lack of foresight,I have acted shamefully.
Mr a.l.e. my learned friend,I appreciate your forensic suggestion as regards to
the hash symbol(#).Obviously the interpretation differs through ones academic
or cultural experiences.I admire your interpretation and I thankyou for
educating me on the particular source of the meaning.
Dear Mr R.S good sir, forgive me perhaps I am reading your above contribution
through the eyes of one who senses that one needs to be accountable before
acceptance(yes that word again!)and trust are favourable to ones pleasing.
May I respectively admit,at the same time in no way underestimate your
perceptive skills that I act alone. There is no they we or us.I hope I have not
offended you Mr R.S.
