No spark

I recently bought the boyer electronic ignition kit for my 500 bullet. Like a fool I thought it can`t be that hard to fit so I had a go and now I have no spark!

All the wires are connected as per Hitchcock's instructions but no joy. However, I have an embarrassing confession to make. Back in the winter I bought a new battery to fit and went to do this when I was not feeling too good. Subsequently I connected the leads the wrong way and had the earth lead smoking before I realised my mistake. So I`m wondering if my cock up has blown one of the components, like the coil, which is why I now have no spark.
Any advice will be gratefully received as I would like to solve this myself rather than paying someone else.

Do you have a voltmeter Ivor?
I don't think you'll get far with this without one.
First things to check are battery voltage and whether you have voltage at the ignition module.

Yes I have got a multimeter but am unsure how to test the various components. To be honest the wiring is a mess on this bike thanks to previous owners so I may start with a new loom. What I need to know is which components are likely to be damaged by reversing the polarity for a brief period.
