Our hosts do a couple of alternative sports type filters. Unfortunately the carb will need re-jetting, which is putting me off at the moment. I don't want to upset a nicely running bike.

I used part no.90009 on both my bikes; both 500cc kickstart only (from 2000 and 2007). It looks more or less like the original but has the filter inside it instead of inside the toolbox! The toolbox is blanked off and has tools or sandwiches inside now. I didn't rejet or anything and they are fine atb Chris

I fitted our host's carb conversion on mine. amongst other positives it frees up the old air filter space to use as extra storage. Does anyone know if a suitable blanking plate to fill in the hole at the back is available?

If this is on an EFI then the throttle body is further back than a carburettor is and we don't have a lot of room for an push-on air filter between the throttle body and the frame. Plus fuel injection generally likes a long inlet feeding it and a large air box.

I replaced the air filter on my 1996 500 with a cylindrical air cleaner which is quite large and has a standard size car filter. It sits on the bolt that supported the air filter box and therefore supports the heavier Mk2 quite well (see below).

In order to fit the Mk2 I had to extend the rear supports for the petrol tank (you can just see the longer welded plates in the image just behind the carb top) and angled the inlet manifold with trusty JBWeld (see below)
