I'd like to know the specs for the chain used on my bike. I'm planning a road trip and want to take a few spares including a chain repair kit (few spare links) so need to be able to specify what I want. Comprehensive info on the chain does not appear in the handbook or service manual as far as i can see. The handbook says it has 101 links and the manual says it is a 5/8 inch. Measuring the chain with a micrometer it looks like it is 5/8 pitch and 3/8 width, which, i think, would make it a 530 using some of the common nomenclature. Would this chain use O rings? Also, what is the forum's thinking on riveted master links versus clipped master links. Thanks for your help.

Hi I also have a B5 , l have scrapped the original chain after only 1000klm they are garbage and have fitted a rk530 heavy duty chain. Orig one has a half link but new one was pulled through on end of old one cut to length, involves moving rear wheel back a couple of notches on cams, not hard to do. They fit cheap light chain on B5 better one on the chrome ones and better again on gt. Light chain had way too much slop and movement on rear sprocket, better safe than sorry.
