Hi All i have a Bullet 65 and it has gaiters as standard but i have bought a set of fork shrouds as i prefer them,never took the legs off a Bullet before and wondered which is the best way to go. Looking at it i need to undo the screw head in the casket and undo the nut and bolt going through the name plate and then does the leg pull out?? seen the videos etc for fork deal replacement but hoping i don't have to go through that messing.

Hi if its the same as my 94 iron barrel undo the two big slotted screws at top of nacelle, slacked pinch bolts under headlamp , there is a hex inside top of fork tubes hex footrest bar is same size, unscrew fork leg slip shroud up I think thrers a rubber ring at top pinch bolts go through holes in shrouds. Get a bit of plastic , milk bottle or similar to put betweem shroud and fork slider to centralize them or they will rub tighten all back up all done . Might be an idea while legs are off to change fork oil.

Just think when unscrewing the leg from the casquette. It's a right hand thread but as you are working from the top, it's clockwise to undo it. It catches people out. They can also be very tight.

Hi Eddy, an Allen key for putting central heating radiators valves in will also fit the top of the forks if you have one to hand.

Large Allen keys often found in your big socket set, that's where I always forget to look. Otherwise go and buy one but do get a good one because the cheap variety are made of cheese and can damage the bolt by chewing up and slipping.

Otherwise remove your hex footrest bar and use that - same size.

Thanks everyone for the adviceI will crack on with it this weekend, I am also swapping all the paintwork mudguards etc with my mates 350 as I love the classic black and gold and he was going to paint his so now he is painting my originals. Someone in the past had swapped mine about as it had chrome 350 gaurds on it.

You also have to loosen the Steering stem nut; 30mm socket, (secured by a 3/8" cap screw pinch bolt below the Hbar clamp) and drop the bottom yoke about 1/2" to get the shrouds and packers in/out. They are located up into the bottom of the casquete.


Watch out for 1/4" ball bearings cascading everywhere...

That`s an awful lot of work for something that`s not needing anything done. Disturbing sliding members will usually cause the seals to start leaking. I think I`ll open another bottle of beer and watch the Tour de France in Switzerland. BURP! excuse me.

Thanks for all the help on here with my swap and it is all done, went quite easy really and i used the footrest bar to undo the legs. It had progressive suspension by the previous owner so fork oil change was not needed.I did however end up dropping the yoke out and took the opportunity to re grease the 19 balls. Much prefer the black and gold paintwork and i even managed to buy last minute on Ebay a single seat and pad which looks very much like the new Enfield saddle.
