Hello . Which way round do the push rods go, long one at the front , and oil pump, thick plunger at the front? 2004 500cc. And any tips on lapping the pumps in. Planning on using the wooden handle suction pad thing with fine paste. Thanks

Hi 555 - long pushrod at the front, big oil pump at the front [for scavenge] and don't lap the pump discs in unless there is quite bad scoring or real evidence of poor contact, minor marking is not a worry and the mating faces will keep each other lapped in under normal circumstances. If you feel you MUST lap them in, use fine paste and make sure you leave NONE behind, or you might be rebuilding the entire engine in the near future! Regards, Paul.

Only use FINE valve grinding paste for the initial lapping, it is too coarse for the final job! Nothing less than #800 grit lapping paste for the 2nd step, then finish off with Braso, or tooth paste.
Wash everything with meticulously with petrol, then wash it all another 4 time, but do it properly!!!
You can not be too careful with the cleaning up.
