Guys,

My 1960 bullet normally kicks over after 1 or 2 attempts , recently it's taking 6 or 7 and seems like it doesn't want too but eventually does.

I have noticed the amp metres needle goes to the left hand negative side when trying to start or sitting unless I I compress the starter.

Could it be adjust and clean the points or is it a charging issue which is making it harder to start.

Thanks Reds

Always adjust and clean 'moving parts', the points and spark plug, before blaming the expensive bits. The fact that the ammeter is not kicking properly may indicate the points have closed or whiskered. I used to clean and set points with a 16-thou 'diachrom' spatula (diamond coated feeler gauge). Still got the tool but don't have points now. They're genuine rocking horse poo but absolutely the dog's bollocks for the job.

The points will gradually close as the 'heel' wears on the cam. Is there not a felt oiling pad that wants one drop of oil?
