Hello. I am trying to time my 1960 fury with a N1 mag. Just want to confirm that ghe timing is still 32 deg BTDC on full advance or is it something different. I don't have a manual for the bike so I don't know. Also I never set up timing with a mag, is it similar operation like the points or something compleatly different. Sorry for the silly questions I just want to be sure before I start the timing process.

Hi Jassie, I would time it to at least 35 and maybe up to 38 degrees BTDC @ full advance, as, with the lever control I like to be a little 'over' rather than 'under', it is a complete nuisance not to be able to get quite enough advance and have to faff around with removing the timing cover and magneto drive gear again, in search of a couple of degrees. Much easier to just nudge the advance lever a touch, in my opinion. The same basic principles apply as with timing a distributor type machine, but locking on full advance is easier, obviously, but shifting the timing is more of a fiddle, due to the need to remove and refit the drive gear to do it. Regards, Paul.
