Just for the record as a possible cause of breakdown to keep in mind. My Electra X on a recent ride began to stutter, short cut out then shut down completely. On checking around found no power to lights, starter etc., Check fuses and discovered main 15amp fuse was loose in its socket, creating sparks and eroded tip away. Clean up and squeeze socket sorted it.

Probably best replaced with a blade type fuse holder. There has been a lot of problems with the original holders.

On my new bike most of the indian blade fuses showed signs of corrosion, much of the thin plating was powdery. The fuse elements were also corroded which would reduce the current they blow at. I replaced the lot. It is then worth routinely inspecting that electrical connectors and components are in good shape. A little moisture and an electric current provide ideal conditions for corrosion. And carry spare fuses ;)

They are the blade type. May consider a 'fuse box' would make it tidier. ....and I carry spare fuses ;)

The C5 takes bog-standard car fuses but caveat there are two size types of blade fuse. The C5 does have a fuse block which should be available in spares (parts book online rather than accessories) and should all plug together on spades like a lego kit. The block is retained in the electrics biscuit tin on a rubber strap hooked onto a metal tongue. I'm sure there must be many solutions. The contents of my electrics box looks like a mare's nest.

The fuses are aluminium because it melts at low temperature but which corrodes very easily so it is zinc plated. If the plating comes off the aluminium corrodes. Mine were corroded from new because they were low quality. If fuses and connectors are failing, it may well be worth replacing the lot.

Thanks Jefrs you are right. Another bike I completely rewired has a 'fuse box' with car type fuses, maybe over kill but I will go for the larger ones. Good point about the ali fuses, well worth remembering. Thank you.
