I have a continental 535 fitted with rubber inserts on the cylinder fins as with all newish royal enfields. there seems to be plenty of cast vertical webs between them which I would have thought sufficient to eliminate any fin ringing, as one rubber strip has already dropped off, I am thinking of taking them all off which would also greatly improve on the looks, or will this not be a good idea for any reason?..any advice would be appreciated.

Not going to hurt the bike, try it and let us know if noise/vibration changes

Mine persist in falling off so I made inquiries, apparently they're solely there to reduce noise, not prevent the fins cracking because the fins are perfectly strong. I replaced a couple but then lost a few more. If you find them on the road you are welcome to re-use them, I shan't be putting lost ones back on again.

I made my own and fitted them to my 2000 Bullet, I think it sounds quieter, maybe the ear plugs are better or it`s all in the mind, whatever, it sounds quieter so that`s all that matters. Once one`s hearing goes, there is no cure.

Eh? What's that sonny? There's lots of things louder than some tappets, probably our washing machine.
Me ears ain't been quite right since Mott The Hoople, they were fin ringing after that one.

Albert. I have a 1996 535cc Classic fitted now with an alloy barrel. The ringing noise was noticeably louder after fitting the barrel. I recently fitted a set of the rubber inserts which noticeably reduced the noise level. Cheers, ChrisD
