Hi Bulleters!
Has someone of You tested to cut the end of the cigar-looking standard silencer a bit? The utmost / back part of the "cigar" is about 6" long and about 1 1/2" diameter wide. I ponder to shorten this back part of the silencer about 3". Has someone tried this? Any other changes than a small save of weight and a somewhat shorter silencer? Sound, performance, ...?

What is it you hope to achieve, just so you don't walk into it, even 3 inches off wouldn't help this

Dont do it, will not improve anything at worst could cause gas flow problems

You could stand the silencer on end, then using an arc welder just burn some holes in the baffles from each end - must be less restrictive, gives deeper note, and doesn't change appearance. A long drill would have same effect.

Oh, just realised that you are talking about cutting some of the tailpipe off; can't see this will have any detriment - may look odd though....

Hello there, SVANTE ------------Both GRUNSA 12 and myself---possibly some others as well (?) ----have removed about a 6" section from the rear end of the silencer itself and then re-joined (weld or braze). In order to judge the difference this gave, I had the rest of the bike ( ie Air filter, carburation, timing, plug gap etc. ) kept at standard through out. So I can now tell you that ----- a) The overall length of the system ends just short of the rear of the rear wheel's diameter. ------ b) There is a very pleasant "thump" now to the sound at idling and through town traffic -----------c) At "Full-Song" and according to an observer behind me (On a "quiet" bike ie a Kawasaki 650 ) there is only the normal noise you would expect from a Standard Bullet. ------- d) For jetting, I have taken all of them up by the "tuners favourite" ie 10% which seems to be ok so far. Estimated MPG on a couple of 200 mile rides recently indicate somewhere in the region of 70 to 80 mpg ( and that included a few "spirited" runs out on the open roads in central Wales. ). I still have the 17T sprocket fitted as well. Hope that's of some use ????
