Evening all, I recently bought a side stand from eBay which appears to fit to the pillion footrest hanger and the forward mounting for the rear mudguard stay. Does anyone know if this is right? If so the bolts will need to be replaced with longer ones.

Uhm.. no. Doesn't sound right to me. I bought a side stand from Hitchcocks. See
this link to see what I did...
I don't know what you bought, but it sounds like it would be too far toward the rear of the bike to offer stable support if you mounted it where you suggest.

Your description is sort of right...

Hi Reg,
Yes your correct, it mounts off the rear footrest, I used the standard bolts but filed the footrest lug to fit. When folded the leg, which has a square foot, sits above the rear brake rod so no clearance problem. Side stands available. A mounted on front engine plate, B under front foot rest, C Long Spike mounted off pillion footrest and D. the above. Vince.

Fitted the side stand this morning where I mentioned earlier and it works fine-------,except the centre stand sticky-outy-bit-you-put-your-foot-on fouls it. A thousand Drats! Looks like it's one or the other. I only need it as my right leg has trouble clearing the wide throw-over panniers I recently bought, and putting the bike on a side stand whilst dismounting would provide some insurance from performing a one legged tap dance every time get off. I'll probably fit one of Mr.Hs'. Thanks for comments lads.

Having a similar problem Reg I got the side stand that is fitted under the engine/gearbox. I can hook in into position with my boot heel & let the bike down so I can safely drag my knackered old carcase off the bike

Is it just me or does the "centrally" mounted Samrat side stand available here seem to lean the bike over too far? I just fitted one in the correct place between footrest bar and rear engine mount and the stand itself is so short the bike ends up around 45 degrees of lean. Makes for a very fraught experience when (for example) parking the bike next to another! Almost feels like the wheels are about to lift!!

It ought not to do that! I bought one for my Redditch/AVL hybrid from our hosts a few years ago and it looks fine. Yours should leave the bike at this sort of angle (this one has an 18" back wheel and a 21" front).

Assuming your stand is correctly fitted, and the bike leans over too far, the stand is faulty.

Adrian I like the look of your bike - what model is, what bars do you have and is that a tacho?
Looks interesting!

Hi sofiaspin
Q. What model is it?
A. An anglo-indian special.
Q. What bars do you have?
A. Just some Indian touring bars off ebay.
Q. Is that a tacho?
A. No, it's a chronometric speedometer (a real one).
Here's a more revealing view (apologies to those who have seen it before), see if you can work out what's going on here:
