Hi Folks.
I just took delivery of the beautifully made breather kit from our hosts. One question I need help with (its Sunday and I want to fit it and can't ring the shop!) There seems to be no provision or instruction as to what to do with the hole that will be left at the top of the timing case once all the spagetti is removed. Can I just block it up with milliput or a set screw? Many thanks, Mark in Orkney.

Yes you can BUT what year is your bike? If it's post about 2004 and breathes from the top of the oil tank (rather than the base of the cylinder)I don't think this kit works. I THOUGHT it was only post 2004 that drained the catch can back to the timing case but I might be wrong.

Mine could be an oddity then as it breathes from the left hand side of the crank case at the base of the cylinder, as per the pictures in Hitcocks instructions but returns the separated oil into the inside face of the timing case. It is a 2003 model, 500 cc.
Thanks for replying, Mark in Orkney.

Hi SHINER------------ I have a 2005 Classic 500 which has the breather coming from the L/H lower part of the crankcase and has our hosts breather kit fitted, including the "Duck-Bill" pipe placed over the chain---if that helps any ?? Slightly "off-post" but just WHERE do you go to on the Bullet in Orkney ??? By 4 now

Hi Alan, well we have lots of long twisty roads and no speed cameras. Very little traffic and the option to pop the bike on a ferry and explore the outer islands. Hoy is my foavourite on a bike. For the adventurous we jump on an early ferry to the Scottish mainland and off round Cape Wrath and surrounding areas. I can highly reccommend it.
So, what did you do with your timing case return pipe when you fitted your kit?
Cheers, Mark in Orkney.

Shiner, I'm not 100% sure on the Hitchcocks kit but if you are talking about the little hose going into the rear of the timing chest under the distributor just plug it off. Put a screw or similar into a piece of hose on it, or just leave the existing hose on it and plug the end of it. It isn't needed was only there to try making them meet emission standards which it didn't and was the reason the cast engine eventually had to be dropped

Hi SHINER----------alas the breather kit was already fitted when I bought the bike last Autumn. From the crankcase a tube goes to the breather mod.---then from the mod. to the chain (that's the end with the duck-bill in).Note}----continue this in}---SOCIAL under "Old Man of Hoy".
