Anyone have any idea how much fork travel there should be under 'normal' braking on a '58 plate? My Effie seems very wooden and has virtually no dive in the forks when applying front (disk) brake pressure . I'm not used to this and would really prefer to have a bit of dive to the forks like on my Kwak W650. Would this occur if the forks were overfilled with oil? Any idea how much oil would be ideal for each leg?

More to do with the viscosity of the oil than the amount. If you want it softer, go to a thinner oil.

If you have the unpainted B5 forks with 130mm of travel then I believe the latest figure is 195ml of fork oil in each leg.

Thanks guys, I'm not after trials bike-like travel but I'm sure there should be a bit more in my forks. I always expect the forks to dip when using the front brake but these don't or if they do, not by much! It makes it feel very wooden in operation. Not ideal.

Have you tried loosening the pinch bolt and bouncing the forks up & down?

No, not yet Frank, I was just making sure they're not 'all-like-that' before any further action! - My days of home maintenance are a bit limited nowadays as stuff I could take in my stride during my yoof seems to descend into a major overhaul with all manner of unforseen problems cropping up in my later years! Even simple jobs, forks are not simple!
