Counter-steering comes naturally(one doesn't have to learn it) to any solo rider, this is why `steering` is a shock to anyone getting on a motorcycle with a sidecar.
I would think holding a couple of fingers over the brake lever would become normal practice to any rider after a few near misses in traffic conditions.

I always cover the brake and clutch in anything approaching a "situation"
It's certainly part of CBT these days.

Here in West Cornwall the drivers are so bad that a "situation" is 100% of the time.
