I'm having a seniors moment with this 1A Inter ignition. The bike was running well last October but now it is unwell. Spark was eratic and with a clean eventually got it going. As I don't have a manual on the 1A I am unsure of the points setup but I think there is a problem with the auto advance because I can move the points cam forward and it doesn't return. I presume these have some form of bob weight setup. Before I pull it to bits can somebody confirm this and is there anything in there I should know about?

Norm, go to Parts Books Online on this site, then 750cc Twin cylinder Mk1A and in the diagram for the contact breaker you can see the whole setup. It does sound like you have broken or stuck springs or bob-weights. They were forever doing this back in the day as they don't have independent lubrication!

Thanks Mark, I should have thought of the parts books. Bit of a dog to work on that distributor, I think it might be easier to pull it out and then open it up. Glad I have Pazon on my Series 1, just so much easier, I had to retard the timing 1 degree last week, took about 5 mins

Mark, On thinking about it I would assume the auto advance should throw to full advance and because it is sticking would stay there and I would have expected it kicking back on start up but I'm not getting this sympton.
