I ordered the crash bar for Thumper. It arrived today. Feverishly unpacked, I laid the 'fixing kit' out on the floor in the shed...

Not the finest piece of engineering I ever saw but I daresay it'll do. There are no instructions so.. you're on your own, Jack.
I presume the two bent bits of steel are bolted together and pinch the frame, the 'U' bolts fit round the bar and sit on the brackets as shown..
I'm sure I'm missing a few nuts and bolts...

I predict some fun in the shed tomorrow...

It does look a bit short on fixings, but you might be using existing ones on Thumper maybe?

Exile, if you email Graeme at our hosts he can send you out a pdf on fitting the crash bars which I prepared when I fitted mine - the destructions which are normally sent out have nothing to do with either crash bar fitting or Royal Enfields! I actually had to do some cutting (about 50mm) of the two long flat bars (your first snap, btm right) to fit the bars with enough clearance so the fr mudguard didn't hit the crash bars with the forks fully compressed.

Does this help I used thread locker on the nuts or you could replace them with nylock's

Thanks Les.. that's exactly what I've been doing for the last hour or so.. including tea breaks. One of those situations where you need six hands and only have two..!! Still, it's all mounted now and I only have one worry.. have I got enough room to wriggle Thumper out of the shed? The door isn't exactly huge...!!

Time will tell and, if I can't get him out, I'll be letting everyone know. Nothing like a good laugh at yourself!

In this case, it dosn't matter if it goes pear shaped, just put a pear shaped door and frame in the shed and Thumper will fit through with the crash bars!

Exile, ref the bottom photo put up by Les check the crash bars to fr mudguard clearance on full fork compression - might be too tight and in which case you would need to cut 40-50mm out of the two flat bars either side of the frame and red rill the 8mm holes. I know my Classic 500 is different in minor detail to the Bullet but I certainly had a problem with clearance and I have seen vids on Youtube where others have had the same issue.

Well, the bar is on the bike now and thanks to all for chiming in.

@ Nigel: Yep done that. Think it's OK.


I had to relocate my pump.. it was mounted on the frame where the bar sits now.. luckily it also provided a new fixing point..

Thanks for the reminder Nigel I have heard of this problem, on mine I have a few inches clearance when pushing the forks right down without need for modification, as far as I am aware these bars are not made by the Enfield factory but are manufactured all over the place which could lead to great many variations
