I just bought myself a 2008 Electra EFI (for Christmas!) - It runs great though a little too quiet for me and also a little harsh at the rear shocks....
Well, I thought I'd have a tinker and take the seat off to have a look for the ends of the side-stand cut-off wires, as it irritates me not being able to start the bike and leave it running on the side-stand.
Undid the top shock mounting bolts and because my bike has the pannier mounting frames fitted as well, loosened off the 2 small allen bolts and....seat still held tight?
No movement. Nada!
Am I missing something here?
I had a Bullet Sixty-5 a few years ago and on that you just loosened the top shock bolts and you could lift off the seat from the back as the rear brackets were forked.
What's changed with this model?

Grab rail bolts keep the whole enchilada together. Two of the screws have nuts in their while two do not. Made me wonder too, few years back.
Side stand cut-off switch: disconnect the green wire under the left hand side panel or thereabouts.

Jojje - 'Side stand cut-off switch: disconnect the green wire under the left hand . . . .' careful, green wire in Indian wiring could be blue, or yellow, or red even. Every single wire, yes every one coming out of my VR is yellow.

I thought I'd read somewhere, that it isn't a good idea to leave the bike running on the side stand.. Something to do with oil levels and the fact that the oil naturally drains to one side..??

I agree with Exile - not a good thing to leave the bike running on the side stand for lots of reasons, nor to leave it running for long on any stand. Air cooled engines can quickly over heat when running stationary.

What I meant about '...leave it running on the side-stand...' is; enough time for me to get helmet, jacket & gloves all setup on my person.

You will soon be alerted with the bike on the side stand by the smoke coming from the exhaust pipe as it starts to wet sump.

.....but any ideas on rmoving the seat from the sub-frame thingy Jojje mentioned?

Gaz262, what type of seat is it? The dual seat has two bolts each side of the seat.

I believe it's probably the front pair of grab rail bolts that fit into threaded holes in the sub frame and possibly a pair of mid position nuts, the left sided one also secures the lift handle as well.
