Trouble selecting 1st gear

I have a 2014 Classic 500 Efi with about 2300 miles on it, when approaching a junction and selecting down the gears I reach a hard stop thinking I've reached first gear, as I ride through the junction (if I don't need to stop) and accelerate I find I'm in a false neutral (no neutral light) and can only select up to second gear but not first. The clutch cable appears to be adjusted correctly, any ideas what this could be, clutch or gearbox problem? Selecting first gear once stopped usually works ok.

Try clutch adjustment - 2.5mm gap between lever and block at the front. Adjust at the other end . .

Similar tribulation with 2014 build /2015 reg 1300+miles saving that I seem to go through 2nd and find neutral whilst cornering. The oem indian clutch cable I found to be stretchy, fitted the english one but it is much thicker and a tight fit, can't get the nut on the adjust side, had to use a stack of washers. Gap is about 3mm. I have the adjustable levers, that was for the brake, but the clutch has to be pulled right in to find neutral when stationary.
It seems to be better behaved since I drained some excess oil out, do not overfill, just enough to show at the bottom mark of the sight glass.
Imo they designed the clutch for easy effort, it has too much leverage and draws too much cable. I may get the drill out and move the rivet inboard for less leverage at the clutch end.

Is the neutral finder stopping it going into first? Could be worth checking the adjustment of the eccentric stop on the outside of the gearbox cover.

This is quite normal, and you need a different technique for changing gear.
1/ Pull in the clutch
2/ Move the gear lever in the appropriate direction, AND KEEP IT PRESSED
?
3/ Let out the clutch
3/a/ If you feel the lever "click" the rest of the way, you've just
avoided a false neutral
4/ Release the gear lever
The basic principle is to keep the gear lever pressed as you let out the clutch lever.

adjusted clutch before this mornings ride, but still no better. my oil is showing in the top half of the window, but it made no difference when it was low.
was on Bonnie on Tuesday.. the enfield is SO MUCH better in commuter traffic and the back lanes on my way to work.

John, there isnt a neutral finder on the UCE/EFI engine.
