Hello Folks while claiming to be knowlageable about the Old Engine I know Little about The EFI or Electric Start,
A Mate has an Early EFI 500 with No Kick Start Fitted and He belives his Sprag has just Gone so...
Q: How easy is it to Covert to Kick Start? or Change cover and fit one? ........
Q: How easy is it to Change/Repair Sprag on EFI and is the "Sprag" as bigger Prob to the EFI as to the Old Modle?... ..
Thanks for any "Basic Answers" Cheers Craig..(2008? I think)

Answering my own post a bit, After reading up on EFI Sprags I sopose my main Question Could be..... "Would it Be Cheaper and Easyer to Dump (Make safe) the Sprag and Convert to K/S ?" ..Cheers all

Not sure it helps much but I have a 2008 efi and that has a kick start so must be possible, whether or not cost effective is another thing

First thing is to confirm that the sprag has gone.
I believe there is a blank boss on the crankcase so, if the same case had a K/S on another model, it's possible, but you would need either a later case (may or way not fit) or fairly serious machining skills to get a kick start, plus the internal bits. I would think it's a darn sight easier (and cheaper) to replace the sprag. The early EFI kickstart isn't the easiest thing to use anyway.

Craig the sprag is easy to access and replace, nothing like the older iron barrel malarky..

Have a look at Singh video, Hours work mate... :)

New ones beefed up as well i understand..

I agree. The sprag can be taken out and replaced in under an hour of the EFI if you know what you are doing. Two hours if you don't :) Getting the clutch and sprocket assembly off is the only tricky bit... and that's only cos you need to stop it moving.

Before you start stripping it down to replace the sprag, just take a look at the battery. If it is over 3 years old its likely to be putting out less than the full voltage, which is needed to turn the engine over. It makes all sorts of wheezing clanging sounds, like the sprag having gone, but won't turn it over. My batt was showing a pd of 12.2v but one cell started to look furry so I knew it was on the way home. It does need to be right up around 13v to start the EFI. I fitted a new (decent) battery and everything sprang into life as normal. Just a thought . .

And the easiest way to check what Nigelphoto has suggested is to just hook it up to a nice big car battery to see if it works ......
