The Amal carb company has a good search engine on its site to find the carb.

I hadn't realised the pre-War Parts Books didn't list the parts supplied by other Manufacturers (Lucas, Amal). The dynamo would have been a Lucas E3 (short 40 watt version of the post War E3L, 60 watt unit which can also be used). The carb would be an Amal "Standard" (sometimes called the Type76) usually known by those who suffer them as the sidefloat carb because of the separate float chamber. Enfield changed the layout of the carb several times in the 30s, some models were fitted with upright carb bodies and some had the body horizontal with a special angled float chamber. All of these used a long necked version of the carb which is unobtainable new and any survivors will be well worn out! Good luck and let us know how you get on,

Thanks gents for the info. I have in the part of the shed reserved for ` I MIGHT NEED THAT ONE DAY` an Amal 276 AC/ 1a that has the right 15/16 ths bore but is not long enough in the inlet to clear the back of the dynamo, so with a little bit of adaption eg tufnol spacers,it should fit without looking too `bodged`. Likewise the E3L that has been under the bench for nearly 35 years will get resurrected, if the Prince of Darkness is smiling on me. I will try to start with a standard N4C and see how it goes. Thanks again.

I was just looking at Ebay and blow me if there isn't a carb of this type! A bit bigger than standard but would probably be ok. Item number 161980556454.

OOps!
I never realised that the pre war books didn't list carbs either!
Mind you, I have stopped short of reading them all! There's hope yet!

Well blow me down !!!! She runs ....(after a fashion)... with the home made inlet manifold and carb of unknown parentage. Very chuffed, now bring on the electrics. Thanks to all.
