In the workshop manual it states a special tool is needed when removing the cylinder head to remove the rocker spindle inlet side. ( Tool ST125117-4)
Is the tool really necessary?
Cheers.

I'm sure that the tool simply screws into the spindle - I just used a bolt with a matching thread. I vaguely remember there was also some sort of shim that could be awkward to line up on reassembly, but I'm sure you don't need the special tool.

Hi there , I have the "special "tool. But as rog says just find a bolt with the correct thread. If the spindle is tight and mine wasn't, just get a piece of bar welded across the bolt head to give you something to hold onto.

That won't be a problem then, I have a metre of 8mm threaded studding from a project.
Cheers.
