Side stand cut out switch

I would like to disconnect the "cut out" part of the side stand cut out switch and use the existing wiring to light a warning light when the side stand is left down. Has anyone done this and if so, is it a fairly straight-forward job? Thanks in anticipation.

It's only one switch so it doesn't have " parts" Get yourself a wiring diagram and it should be obvious how to proceed. It might be easier to leave the existing wiring in place and run a fresh wire down to switch your new warning lamp. That way, it would be easier to reverse if you don't like it.

out of interest, I have thought of removing the switch on my 2015 Classic 500.. does the switch work by breaking or making the contacts when the stand is down? ie to disable it, do you remove the wires and connect them together OR tape them apart?

Maybe a light AND a cheapish buzzer; to avoid that one fateful, bright summers day when you don't see the light and...

It works by making a contact. I removed mine by disconnecting it at the socket in the main loom and cutting the cable at the side stand end. Out of interest I then used a bit of wire and inserted each end into the two female parts of the connector left on the bike. Sure enough the engine acted as if the side stand were down. I might solder a wire to connect the two connections in the discarded make connector. I could then use this as a cheap Immobiliser by plugging into the one left in the main loom.

Frankly, if you need lights and buzzers to remind you to carry out what should be part of the pre-ride check then it doesn't say much about your observation and checking skills. What next, power modes to limit power when the road is wet? Oh, sorry, we've already reached that point. No doubt soon the rider or driver will need no skill/awareness at all....

Alas Rattlebattle, unlike you I am just a mere mortal and occasionaly less than perfect. Once or twice I have been known not to cancel my indicators, failed to dip my main beam and forgotten to bring up the side stand, despite the warning lights and the failure of the bike to turn over.... I suppose it comes to us all eventually.

That must make me less than mortal...
I tried to ride someone else's bike home a couple of weeks ago. I'd forgotten which bike I'd ridden in on and wondered why my Yamaha key when in the ignition of an identical model sports bike wouldn't work - damn security protocols.

Yes, I really must stop riding my old Triumph right away. It's just not safe. How did I get to near pensionable age riding all those death traps I used to own. No indicators either. Why am I not wiped out when I wear black, ride without lights (unless visibility is poor) and don't look like Dayglo Derek? Must be my guardian angel, tuned to keep up with the speed at which I ride....
