After beating the Royal Enfield around the local tracks for about 40 years I decided to clean it up and after a letter to Graham Scarth I found it to be a 1961 500 Fury in a 1957 700Indian Trailblazer frame. The bike has a rear sprocket that bolts to the hub instead of it being one piece, a Mikuni carb and the rear of the frame seems different than pictures. Can anyone tell me if the Indian frame is the same as Enfields, if they've seen a sprocket and carb like this before, why someone would combine this motor and frame, could this have been a crate motor, how many were made, does a Lucas N1 magnetic mean it was never street legal, and is it worth putting about $1,000 to make it pretty again being as it will still just be ridden around local fields and tracks? It is still great mechanically just needs cosmetics. Also what fluids are recommended for clutch, tranny, oil and front forks?

Get the right frame and parts IE top yoke and it should be worth alot , does it have a tacho as that alone is very rare with bracket .

The rear hub with detachable sprocket was used on some Indian models, usually the competition ones so that's ok. The Indian (US) frame and the Redditch Royal Enfield one are the same but the detachable seat loop for the Fury is different to the road models, similar but not exactly the same as the early Constellation and Mk1A Interceptor type. The Lucas mag is a competition one, just because there is no provision for lights doesn't mean it's not road legal, I think the same rules applied in the US as here, if it doesn't have lights they don't have to work. If you get caught riding after dark that's your problem! You can get your engine and frame officially dated by the REOC, I don't know what a "crate motor" is but if you mean a spare, probably not as these would be unstamped and yours has a stamping that Graham has identified as authentic. Oils: ATF for clutch and forks, 20/50 multigrade for motor EP 80 for gearbox. Furies, even built up ones are desirable, $1000 sounds a reasonable investment, I'll take it off your hands!

The first post here was an unintentional duplicate, it's twin (with subsequent messages) is here:

If you scroll down about half way there's a picture of this particular Fury/Trailbazer, though the owner has done some work on it since he sent the photo over.

Thanks for the input and offer Mark but I think I'll keep her for awhile. Got my parts from Hitchcocks and just waiting for my paint guy to finish the tank and fender and it should be ready to fire up. Tim
