They bolt onto the fork legs. Off the mudguard stay lugs.

Tim.
Thanks for coming back but the brackets are supposed to fit near to the centre stand, I can't work out how.

Tim is absolutely correct these two bracket's are not anything to do with the centre stand. The front lower mudguard stay also can be used as a stand to remove the front wheel and they act as stops for this stand/stay.

It took me a while to find these, you have described the bike as a Meteor, it is actually a Super Meteor, the Meteor is a different model which did not have this feature. As the others said, these 2 brackets support the lower front mudguard stay, it is designed to be used as a support for the front wheel when you need to remove it for a puncture repair. The idea is that you loosen the stay from the fork studs, release it from the special stud in the centre of the lower rear front mudguard and then fold it downwards until it clips into the cut outs in the brackets. This way it can't roll back off the stand when the wheel is out. Simples! (Some Constellations had this feature too, in fact I have a couple of NOS stays in my workshop.)

Hi Mark, I hope you had a good Christmas and all the best for the new year. These parts were also used on the Meteor from 1954 on I believe. Perhaps the hangover is still having an effect, ;-)

It would be interesting to see a photo of that in use!

Scalyback, I have them fitted to my Super Meteor and would love to post a picture of them in use as a stand.

Unfortunately the ones I have both stay and bracket are from our host and and when folding the stay down the slots in the brackets are too small for the stay to fit, so mine a purely cosmetic I'm afraid.

Something wrong there. I think H's have made a mistake and placed it by the centre stand page thinking that's where it belongs, just as the original poster did. My original 1953, 54 and 55 Redditch Parts Books for the Meteor do not have this front mudguard stay or brackets. I have never seen a 53-55 Meteor equipped this way either. What may be the answer is that this same mudguard was fitted to Super Meteors but with the addition of the drop down stay. H's sell a repro of this guard to fit several models, perhaps adding the option of the front wheel stand? The later type drop down stay is solid bar by the way, not a pressing or tubular with flat ends. And Dennis, I did go to the private party in the village pub last night but I feel fine today!
