Hi guys,

I've bought a power commander from our hosts.
Has anyone ever fitted one? If so, any tips?
I really hate this kind of stuff! I hate electrics! I'm tempted to get Hitchcocks to do it for me tbh.

It is simple to fit, rather like assembling Lego. You don't say which bike you're fitting it to. Hitchcocks do supply detailed instructions and will help on the phone (I had a left to right senior moment). Mine is a 2014 year-model 2015 reg Classic 500 - hence - take the tank off and watch out for petrol dribbling out (two electrical connectors, two bolts, hose) lift it away to safety, take the seat off, make all the electrical connections and tidy the wiring up, replace stuff. Biggest problem was getting the wiring through the rubber gaiter at the back of the electrics box. You do not need to remove the battery, just switch off. You will need to make a ground connection but you will find the frame ground under the seat. You may want to remove the oval box to tidy the wiring behind it, and the head stay will get in the way of routing. You will want assorted cable ties and best quality (because it sticks) black pvc insulating tape.



re Leaking tank outlet, I found a suitable plug and then a plastic cap that fitted over the pipe, if you up-end a full tank it will splosh out out the filler cap.

The bike is a 2013 continental GT.
I'm more nervous about taking the tank off to be honest and disturbing something I shouldn't.
I'm gonna give it a go over the xmas break.

I can understand the trepidation. Petrol is highly inflammable. But you normally ride the bike with 3 gallons of the stuff lovingly pressed against you goolies. Just use a bit of common sense.

To remove tank - I don't know CGT but C5 (any tank really) is probably similar - disconnect fuel pump connectoid (up around injector), disconnect fuel level connectoid (ditto), remove fuel pipe hose (Jubilee clip) and if it dribbles use suitable push-fit plug or cap e.g wood screw, trye dust cap, Blu-tak, undo and remove two long bolts and re3verse tank off over seat NOTA BENE mind paintwork on top yoke, if no bolts and tank is on rubber bungs then lift and reverse off, remove tank to place of safety.

If anything is distoibed (sorry, see "West Side Story") then it is the indian wiring loom, tidy it up whilst you're at it. Plumber's nightmare and utter mare's nest (cachemar) springs to mind, complete mess and nothing fits. You will need large and/or medium cable ties and sticky back plastic (Best black PVC insulating tape, best - because it actually sticks, 3M/Scotch).

3M is Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company TM is 'Scotch' so our Euro 3M stuff is mostly made in Germany. Also 'Lasovic' tape which is even better (aerospace use), and by gum it's british rocking horse poo.

I fitted a power commander to my 2011 Clubman EFI with no problems. I downloaded fitting instructions from the Dynojet web site, www.powercommander.com, and found their directions very easy to follow. Removed the fuel tank and seat to gain access to the wiring loom and had a supply of cable ties to hand to secure everything in place once the unit had been installed. Although fairly expensive I have been impressed with the improvement in performance and throttle response but I did fit a freeflow downpipe from our hosts (91085), genuine Goldie silencer and K&N air filter at the same time. Take your time, follow the instructions and enjoy the result.

FYI - Hitchcocks provide a detailed installation instructions leaflet for RE bikes with purchase. The PCv map provided by Hitchcocks is specific to your model and modifications for example my K&N plus 50s free-flow, the map notes says 'Goldie' so I guess it has the same effect. If you make further modifications then Hitchcocks can provide alternate mapping. These RE maps are not available from DynoJet (other than a basic Bullet map). The best advice here is going to come from Hitchcocks, especially if you have problems fitting or later want to modify the map; they have done the dyno work.



FYI - The PCv can hold two maps. This can be set up from the software, note which pins are enabled. You also need an on-off switch and a bit of wire to open and close those pins (normally 1 & 2). That way you can hold the original map and play with a second copy on the fly.
