As many would know my hatred of these is intense but we were discussing them last night and a figure of about 100 imported into Aus was quoted. Anybody have any idea as to how many were imported into the UK or other surrounding countries. It is of no importance, just the interest factor and wondering if my Electra barrel and head will ever be worth anything. Never see any Electra bits for sale on ebay. For reference this is what you know as the Elexcta X not the UCE Electras

I've no idea of the actual numbers that were brought into the UK. But I've a rough idea of the ratio of the Enfields I've seen on the road. Out of 10 bikes. 5 would be iron barrels. 3 would be the Electra X. 2 would be UCE's.

I have two. One engine and a whole bike - no trouble - so far.

Hi Norm,

I'm not up on the numbers, but don't forget the 500 AVL also appeared as the AVL Classic sold only in the USA, alongside the Electra-X, and the limited edition 500 Machismo sold only in India, though one or two have made it to the UK and Europe.,br>

Sadly your example seems to have been a total lemon. Given in mind where it was built, possibly it was factory practice to assemble one really awful bike out of each batch to appease some local deity!

If postage from down under isn't too prohibitive I might offer you the price of a few tinnies for your Electra head and barrel. Is the head complete? What state is the barrel in, and is there a usable piston with it? My Electra-X has run very well most of the time, though currently it is in yellow citrous mode as it still needs a new big-end (other things have taken priority).

A.

Perhaps some of them don't last long, but my god it is easy to make them go fast!! Cheers, Paul.

The people that might have import numbers to UK would be Watsonian, the previous RE agents. They're generally pretty helpful.

Paul, I'm still wondering whether my Electra's rebuild could be the excuse for another of your ASBO engines. A.

Is an Electra an ordinary iron barrelled 500 with an electric start tacked on?

A question for Paul about these unreliable Electras. What do you do to them to make them faster, but keep a modicum of reliability?
