shifting 'too short'

Hi folks, my 4 speeder is shifting 'too short'from 2nd too 3rd, often popping out of 3rd.. Which way do i have to rotate the selector plate to adjust this?
Counter clockwise.
If the bike has only recently started to drop out of 3rd, it is not the selector plate that is at fault, but the dogs on the shaft and the gear itself.
