rewire 4 wires to alternator

Hello all,

2003 Bullet 500 4 speed kickstart

I noticed in a recent tear down that some of the four wires from my alternator, in the primary chain case were stripped of their insulation. That can't be good so I've decided that this is the weekend to replace them. I'm not sure of the current coming out of the standard 500cc Bullet Alternator so I think I'll strip some old household 240 AC cables to get four wires that should be up to the job. The current wires are 2 purple and 2 yellow so I can use the earth and neutral, which is near enough.

Does that all sound reasonable? I'll desolder the old stuff, the insulation is very hard and brittle, and might be down to age and might be down to the number of times the alternator has be removed, in the past. Anyhow desolder and resolder the wires if that is a reasonable thing to do.

Please le me know if I've not considered something.

I just fitted a high output alternator. The two purple wires feed the DC side. The two 'yellow' should be one orange and one yellow. They feed the AC.

The household cable will take the current OK but you should not use a solid wire type. Multi strand will be much better as a solid type could well be affected by vibration.
