Hi I'm sure this is covered somewhere but thought would be quicker to ask as probably very simple.

I've just picked my bike up from mot and having electrics done etc.

Rides lovely but tickover seems abnormally fast.
Is this normal or can I turn down the idle simply?

It's running an amal carb and it's an electra x 1997.

Couple of tests you can do. With the engine switched off, open the throttle fully and release, it should smoothly return to shut with a metallic click coming from the carb as the slide hits the stop screw.. If it does then you only need to adjust the throttle stop screw, anti clock to slow down... Second test with engine running turn the handlebars full lock left and then right..

Does the engine speed change? If so then the throttle cable may be kinked or pinched especially if they had the tank off for wiring job.

Likewise if the cable runs through the headlamp shell, they may have pulled it too tight getting a wire in position.. Just make sure that the throttle rotor springs back to shut whenever its released..

Hi, Check that the auto/advance springs are not broken/weak as this will also cause a fast tickover.
