Hello All , Im need of any advice ..bike as above and today after various starting clicking noises I decided to charge battery , after the starter switch on bar asembley started to smoke I realised my issue was deeper !..

Im going to replace the bar assembley and solenoid , should anything else be replaced ?

the bike will prime and kick of key and run ok , except for the neutral light remaining on whilst in gear and only going out when clutch pulled ( i believe this might also be linked to a stray wire in the solenoid ?)

So any advice appreciated ....cheers ...Stuart

My advice is to get a wiring diagram and multimeter and don't replace anything without testing! Sounds like you have checked your loom, so do some investigation as something is causing all these wee gremlins.

Unfortunately low batteries and starter motor solenoids are not good bedfellows; ask BMW who published a bulletin to this effect after discovering the problems some owners suffered after trying to start their bikes in spring after failing to maintain their batteries over the winter.

UPDATE>>> starter solenoid failed (moisture) just for the "library" this in turn brought the neutral light on all the time until the clutch was pulled ???

The fuse had blown ...BUT...had melted bridging the gap and creating a potential 50amp !..which in turn burnt out the elec push button on the right hand cluster .

New solenoid ( then sealed with clear silicone ) right new cluster switch ( I orderd left ..oops , but the guys as per usual sent me a replacemnet in a day --- fantastic mail order service ) all hooked back up , hey presto the thumper and sidecar are back in business.

cheers Hitchcocks for a great service and delivery ..

Keep riding shiny side up all
