Old formula Viton tip ? http://mykin.com/rubber-chemical-resistance-chart-3
If your carb body is zinc based then it should be drained after use to avoid degradation.

Done anything to it recently? Or the fuel system? Do you have a liner in the tank? What is the float made of?

I'd skip the Ethanol treatment for a start. It's not necessary for the simple components of our bikes and won't stop the solvents attacking plastics as it's mostly designed to improve storage of Ethanol mix fuels. I have had trouble with Viton tipped needles as well which I cured by going back to an old style nylon one, or brass if you can find one. However, my real issue with the Viton needle is that it was longer than the nylon or brass ones. Worth a try though?

The viton tipped float needle fitted in 2000 to replace the well worn nylon item is still ok in the old Monobloc the our A10 sucks through. Still has the original copper float.
I think there would be visible signs if there was a problem with plastic floats, but I could be wrong
