Are these ok for a 1959 Meteor Minor, they all say mineral and classic cars.







Only we are in France and Kevin's getting thirsty!

I'd say they will be perfectly ok. The bike will love it.

They're all fine. Modern 20/50, even the stuff for "Classic" engines will still be better than what was available back in the day but not too good, if you see what I mean!

Personally, I wouldn't waste my money. Any oil on the market has to be up to specification to BE on the market. I'm using 20/50 from Wilkos at £12 for 5 litres.
It's like supermarket fuel - I believe it all comes out of the same tanks at the refinery.

I know lots of you will disagree but..........

To be honest, I have found it to be cheaper than most. I bought something like the comma at Halfords for under £20 for 5 litres.



Trouble is, I still need to work out which store is the 'French Halfords' is there is one! Need some grease, oil, and some of those free reflective stickers for your helmet, as they are good for other uses!



Oh, my redditch gearbox will have thick oil in it won't it? Not that sloop that Tornado, my Indian bullet has? (haven't checked yet, only done 200 miles), need to go do that!

Gearbox, I use EP90 but this being an Enfield Forum there will be someone along in a minute to say that if you do the sky will fall in, plagues of frogs, woe everlasting, etc!

I've been talking to an older chap over here. He has ridden all kinds of bike for donkeys years. His advice: "As long as there is some oil in the system, it'll run OK."


Personally, I use Castrol in the engine bit. I haven't any idea what's in the gearbox.

The only beef I have with EP90 is it stinks. Straight cut gears don't need high pressure oils but if you don't mind the pong and it stays in the box all is good. The engine oil thing is a topic of endless and heated debate but as far as I am aware you don't want modern synthetic oils where you have roller bearings as they are apparently too slippery and can cause the rollers to stall. I always ran the Bullet on straight mineral 50 but since it shat an oil pump drive I've gone to mineral 20-50. Seems to be fine.

if you're spending lots of time in France you really should join the French forum, they'll have someone not too far from you if you want some RE-minded company and they can advise on some of the day to day practicalities.
