Right Lads Simple Question for any 535 Owners?

In Day to day use Do's That Extra CC Make any difference ??

And whats the cruising speed & Mpg?

I Like the Look of some of the Lightnings that Turn up some have Std 500's Fitted (Indian odd Jobs or Blown Motors?) and some have the factory 535cc (I Think) so having Owned and Rode many and Enfield I Just wondered IS They a Difference...or is it a CC to Far?

Cheers all...Craig

Hi Craig, My German dealer delivered my new Bullet 500 in 2007, after he converted it to 535 with a slightly sportier exhaust and PAV removed. Not having ridden the standard before, the only comparison I could make was being followed by a friend riding a standard home market 500. I had better performance on hills, on the flat not so aware as we never pushed to find top speed, but it felt like it would have benefitted from an 18 tooth sprocket. Fuel consumption average was about 4.6 L/100km on unleaded 95. Now with an EFI, the better performance is very noticeable. Also have an 18 tooth spocket so she will cruise quite comfortably around 90 to 100, but I still prefer to cruise around 80 to 85 km/h. Biggest difference of course is disc brake front. I just rode my old bike again last week and cannot believe how weak TLS drum felt, but it is what you get used to. Cheers

Craig,
Not sure with the Lightning and its extra cc's but 535's out here perform much better that the 500's most probably because of fitting the higher comp Accralite piston, bigger cc and higher compression and therefore you can run a bigger sprocket, 19 at least.

Hi,

I do have both Lightening and std bullet. The Lightening, as originally made by company, had std compression piston (better quality than the crappy piston of 500). By the fact that it is 535, the compression is higher by 0.5, which is still not that much. So I would say that performance wise, there is only a very slight and hardly noticeable difference between 535 and 500. Only if high compression piston is fitted, the difference becomes big, but so it is if you fit high compression piston to 500 bullet. The Lightening was a nice bike but produced by the company only for short period of time. I like myself the shape of it and I made an imitation of it (with big head) by using the frame of Thunderbird (which was an 350 AVL copy of the Lightening).
