i am slowly fixing up the oil leaks on my model j.500cc, made new gaskets for the oil pump covers, pulled all the bolts out of the timing cover, loctite . no leaks so far on those two. oil leaking out of the footrest hole in primary cover.when i pulled cover of ,i noticed bulk silicone has been used especially around the footrest hole, question one, what is a good brand of silicone to bulk fill. or is there another way, question two, gear box is full of penrite semi fluid grease. instruction book states,on no account should grease be used, only oil ,is it worth worrying about ?. thanks in advance, rick , australia

How much gap is there? Is it possible to machine a bush? Or get a grommet?

Oil leaking out of footrest hole on the primary side? I thought you only filled it to the height of that bottom nut, which is lower than the footrest?... mine leaks like crazy from the primary, but from underneath, iv ordered a new gasket but it doesn't look too promising. Let us know if you find any good solutions.

Hello Chonpuun,
I resolved the primary chaincase leak at the footrest hole by fitting a felt seal (the type you find behind the Magdyno, but smaller), and a washer of the same diameter, the whole lot compressed by the footrest. It makes a kind of "damper" when you tighten the foorest nut (and helps your case not to looks like a banana),doesn't leak (there), and is easy to dismantle. I lost the hope to have the case oiltight, and fitted a small oil can (with a tap) that drips oil on the primary chain, like the ones you find on the Manx Norton. It permits to have the chain lubricated, "porous" chaincase or not.
Hope it will help you

thanks, CLAUDE, i shall try what you have described, you are right ,when you tighten the primary it does go banana shaped. i am thinking i will try silicone too. MICAH the oil is filled to the bottom nut, but on my bike the oiled chain is throwing it outside of the primary, because i dont have it set up right on the inside, thanks, rick
