Hi all,I seem to have a bit of over excess play in My 59 Connie Gearbox, was considering a strip down and rebuild with new parts.
Any one like to offer some advice.
Regards all
William.

When you say "play", do you mean sloppy lever travel, play between gearbox and rear wheel or somehting else?

My advice is leave it alone. Seriously, if it's working, keep using it until it isn't then fix it!

Any golden flakes (brass) in the gear box oil?

And problems with jumping out of gear, 3rd in particular?

Does the kick-start lever flick down when you accelerate?

(All are symptomatic of worn lay-shaft bushes)

And if you do decide to over haul the 'box, and are still running the scissor clutch you will want to consider fitting new thrust bearings for the clutch.

Excessive play? Do you mean main shaft end float? (Loose gear box sprocket nut or a spinning Out-put bearing in the case)
