I have a 2011 EFI with the original gas shocks and I am finding it hard going over the pots and holes we have here in sunny Cheshire.

Has anyone bought any replacement shocks as offered by our good hosts?

If so which ones, and do they give a noticeably softer ride?

Which part of sunny Cheshire is that then? I'm in Northwich and we don't have potholes here (he lied...!)

My Electra X has gas filled shocks and they're fine. My Connie on the other hand ...(ouch!)

I used to have an old 350 Indian Bullet and I had to fit Mr H's softer springs - maybe there's an option to fit these to the gas filled ones too?

Where have you got the preload set? If not on the softest setting , try it there. Mine (2011 B5) rides well set to the softest even over those bloody great pot holes that are appearing all over the UK !

The first modification I did to my Electra X (ish) in the process of lowering the seat height was to fit a pair of Hagon shorter shocks.

I fitted the Hitchcocks softer springs in the gas shocks on my Electra leanburn last year. It certainly made the ride little more compliant but I think these shocks are probably over-damped to start with (probably to cope with Indian loads and rough roads). With 2-up they probably give a better ride but solo, especially if your not very heavy, they are rather ard. Don't forget that we are dealing with quite short travel (80mm?) suspension twin shock design which simply cannot compete with modern rising-rate single shocks with up to 200mm travel.
