I'm sure the sump plug torque figures are available somewhere but you'd be better using Dowty washers and minimal torque. They are very easy to strip as they only hold on a few threads.

According to my workshop manual the torque settings you wanted are as follows:-
Sump plug 15ft/lb, Oil filter cover 4.5ft/lb Sump strainer 4.5ft/lb. Hope this helps.

Torque values in manuals are normally quoted for dry threads unless stated otherwise (Modern Triumph handlebar bolt threads for example require lubricating with oil prior to assembly and the workshop manual specifically mentions this and provides the wet torque value accordingly. As all of these particular threads would normally be wet with oil on reassembly a reduction in values could well be required. 20-30% is usual dependant on what's lubricating the threads. A thorough check of what's printed in the manual might be advisable to avoid possible damage.

Quite agree ric.

I also agree with ric. But as none of these are 'torque-critical' components it seems a bit like the 'counsel of perfection' to stress the point in this case!

Presto, drain plugs very much are torque critical components, too little and they will fall out, too much and the threads will strip when they are undone.

Just checked an on-line manual - and the torque figures given are 20N/M for the magnetic crankcase drain bolt (sump strainer bolt) 6N/M for the oil filter hex cap bolts and 6N/M for the 3 oil filter bolts. Best use these recommended figures and a cotton bud to dry the threads! If you have an accurate torque wrench then 177 and 53 inch-pounds are the equivalents.

I agree 'papa' - but you'd need to lack all sensitivity to over/under tighten a drain plug too that degree. But I guess we've all needed to undo drain plugs that have been tightened as tight as crankpin nuts!

The torque settings ric gives agree with the ones I posted though my figures were imperial. Out of interest I lockwire the sump strainer bolts and the sump drain plug so there is no chance of them falling out (I hope!). I also use Loctite on the oil filter retaining bolts as this is the only place I have had an oil leak. My bike is an EFI clubman and only has 2 bolts holding this cover as opposed to some models which use 3.
