Tool - or clever trick?

Hi.I was wondering if anybody knew of a method for removing the inner collar of the timing side main bearing from the drive shaft on a bullet engine. I seem to remember having done it a while back, destroying the shim in the process. I've just fitted one by gently heating it and tapping it into place, only to realise that I'd forgotten to put a shim on first. I don't want to get heavy handed with it as it's a posh bearing and a very posh flywheel. Any ideas? Spech.

I use a proper tool made by Sykes Pikavant which I bought a long time ago but has proved it's worth! The "official" way was to use a pair of opposed tyre levers but you might need to grind the ends to get them right in. I have seen a ball joint separator as used on cars used in this situation, maybe try that, shouldn't be too expensive? Here's one on Ebay, item number 121548582855

Just ordered it Mark. At three pound sixteen shillings and fourpence I won't mind having to "modify" it if necessary. Cheers mate!

That looks like a useful tool for all sorts of applications. I've just ordered one too, the seller is going to wonder what's going on..
