Strange Vibrations - SOLVED!






That strange episode where Tornado had massive vibrations, the engine seemed ok, all the studs, setscrews, (and what ever the rods with nuts either end are called) were all tight. the clutch was ok, the dynamo too.



I love my Enfields and had actually got a bit depressed over it, but I learnt something today.



Les and Ammo came over to the woods, only Ammo was all black and didn't say Enfield on it. Seemed ok though!



we went towards teapot island with the intention of continuing on to Chris at C & C motorcycles in the hope that he could shed light on Tornado's vibration. Just before teapot island is a gap in the hedge obn the left, and a sign poking through saying "CAFE", so we stopped there for lunch. Two specials later and we were off again to C & C at Yalding.



Chris had a quick test run and said as kindly as he could that I should wait for the bike to get worse and hope I could identify the noise before damage happened.



anyway, having had a nice morning and lunch in the company of Les, I headed off and for some reason, decided to fill up even though i was not on reserve. I went to the nearby Texaco and filled up with their 97 fuel and would you believe it??? Within half a mile, all the vibrations drifted away until Tornado was running normally again.


So here is my middle finger to BP of Hildenborough who sold me some right old cocktail of crap. SORT YOUR FUEL (OR TANKS) OUT!




Moral being - - - There is always a reason, but sometimes it comes from an angle that is shouldn't have.

Forgot to say... Thanks all for your ideas and suggestions guys, I learnt a lot more about my bike in the last few days.

Strange ,see my post "bad vibrations" I had just run onto reserve and filled up at a BP garage when I thought the bike was falling apart,cleared after a few miles, that was in Norfolk.Stear clear of BP

This often happens when filled from a station which has recently been flooded; water seeps into their underground tanks. Cars have been known to stall just down the road after filling at these places. It can happen to any brand service station which has been under water in a flood, best to read the news, take note of where the floods have been, and steer clear of them.

I have read about water being deliberately being put in storage tanks to cover up for dodgy dealing

Highly recomend Texaco 97 super green petrol, its the only one I use nowdays because, as you may have noticed,it is still pure petrol with no ethanol. At least the stuff here in North Devon is. My old Tiger 90 runs soooo sweetly on it being a slightly higher comp engine.

Do you use Texaco 97 in your Meteor Minor as well?
