strange vibrations

in the last 20-25 miles, Tornado, my classic iron bullet has started vibrating.

I had the chain snap, and replaced it, and checked the play whilst sitting on the bike, but now I get a foot numbing amount of vibration at about 2 different engine speeds, in 3rd and 4th mostly. it goes away when clutch pulled in and engine allowed to idle, so not chain or wheels/frame.

Checked all the usual nuts and studs, but all ok, so very worried about possible engine failure, have put Tornado to bed until I can get to the dealers IF we get that far. Took covers off but oil is ok to rockers.

Vibration mostly through footrests, but also noticeable through right (more than left) handlebar.

Anybody recognise what may be the trouble please?

vid of first side of chain snapping. One of the pins had come out the side.

Have you got the new chain too tight?

about an inch and a half or 4cm.

But did not initially get any problem, it seems engine speed related as goes straight away when clutch pulled in and eg=ngine idles>

also, seems to shake a little on tickover on centre stand?

A bit of a clue it goes away with the clutch pulled in.

Hang on, you snapped the chain? Something wrong there, you shouldn't have anything like enough power to do that. Or did you mean the spring link came adrift? I would investigate the old chain and sprockets to ascertain how that happened.

If the chain broke then all manner of nasties could have happened.Sprockets out of align, bent, broken tooth, engine sprocket loosened? Needs taking apart and inspecting before the new chain is damaged.

One of the pins that hold the links together, came loose and slid sideways out of the chain.

I am wondering if the shock of the chain going, might have had a knock on effect in the engine?

Forgetting the chain, what are the symptoms when the big end start to go?
