Choke issue

Hi all,

Had a bit of a problem on the ride home this afternoon, did my usual starting process (tickle carb, choke on, no throttle, kick, idle OK, pull away, gradual choke off) but tonight the bike didn't want to run with the choke completely off - it still needed about 1/5th. Less than this it would die, more than this the engine bogged down. More than about 3/4 throttle and it starts getting a bit lumpy.

Was no problem this morning, choke was fully off after a minute or so and throttle responded well. Only difference is the temperature was about 10 degrees this morning, and maybe 15 this afternoon.

I've not had a chance to go out and tinker yet, but any pointers where I should first start looking? Carb is an MK1 Amal Concentric, pod filter, bike is a 2007 Enfield Electra X (AVL).

Hi Shaggy

I have the same carb setup on the same bike. Not had this problem but I would start looking at mucky fuel (but it may have already cleared itself from what you say) float bowl off first and look for 'dregs'!

Good luck

Stephen

"This morning" & "this afternoon" = same day; the problem hasn't cleared.

It's possible the carb has vibrated loose and has an air leak at the manifold, leaning the mixture. Can't check until the weekend now.

I also think that it sounds a bit like petrol pollution. I'd check the bowl for water.

try the WD40 spray around the carb manifold to see if its leaking
