I have a 2011 C5 Classic with efi and no kickstart. Tiwice in past 2 weeks after riding for about an hour with no trouble, red "mil" light fluttering on and bike losing power then stopping. Fist occasion, after cursory check of thigs and 10 minute stop, the bike started with no problem and I was ble to ride home with no further problem. Similar, last weekend, problem after 1 hour's riding, but now only got it going a further 10 miles with 3 forced stops, before it failed again (fortunately outside a pub) and I had to be recovered home. Started first time and ran smoothly in my garage the following day. Has anyone any thoughts on what the source of the problem may be. Coil overheating perhaps ?

Perhaps check the fuse holders and the weedy negative wire terminal from the battery..
There has been more than a few where the wire has broken completely adrift from the terminal post..

Side stand switch in need adjustment? Check by turning ignition on when the bike is on the centre stand and see how far down the stand moves before the MIL light extinguishes and then how far up it goes for the pump to prime/MIL light to appear again.

Thanks, both. I will give both suggestions a try and see what happens.

Hi Ric/ Gwily,
Fuse holders secure and I soldered the negative terminal back on when I serviced the bike in February, as I fould it as you describe. Also, the light on/ off and the pump are in sync, so sidestand switch appears OK. Any other suggestions would be appreciated, before I creep off to my local dealer in Port Talbot who,in fairness, are excellent.
