You don't need to take the wheel off or the tyre, grab a ruler and work out how long the spoke has to be to thread into its nut but not into the wheel and cut to that length, take any sharp edges off fit, i did 2 rear spokes when I over loaded the rear with camping gear,

I have just looed at the parts picture and the measurement you give are you sure you have ordered the right part as the font wheel has that length of spoke the rear are a little shorter

Ring Hitchcocks, tell them what bike it's for and which wheel, they'll then send the right one. They did it for me, no problems at all. atb, Chris

I did order rear outer spoke but no way would it fit the rear wheel......when I tried it next to a spoke on front wheel it looked perfect ......so now ordered a front spoke I think that will fit on the back......think the book is wrong online.....165mm for the front and 155mm for the rear on my desert storm .....if the next one don't fit will ring the experts.....much more fun going the long way round thanks for your help

You cannot just cut a bit off the thread and hope that it will fit.. What about the head angles being different ie inner or outer..
You obviously have the wrong spoke and have no idea what it is supposed to fit..
If you value your well being and safety i would seek expert advice from our hosts and get the correct part..
Sorry if i sound like a school master but use your loaf lad..

When One spoke breaks, another is not far off as well...
Check ALL spokes for tension, and if the break has been like all the one I have replaced, you may see where the spoke has been fretting on the lip of the hub flange?

Not necessarily so Tim. In 2001 I had a front spoke go, nothing since. With the Flash & a Box I've had 2 front wheel spokes fail, first 2007 & the other was earlier this year.
Neither of the bikes are treated with kid gloves so have I been lucky?
