Hi
i'm looking to buy my first RE. I have been offered an unused 8 year old Bullet. It has proof of UK Vat & Duties paid, but personal issues, was never used / UK registered, just stored. Will it be a problem to get age related registration, fitness to use in UK cert etc. Any advice approx costs would help, as i don't want to buy, if it's going to a problem the get uk road legal, many thanks.

Hello WITTOPE}------------- The question is, what's the REAL cost of this bike?---assuming all is well mechanically If it's only a couple of hundred quid then it MIGHT be worth the hassle----not that it's a great effort, but if the asking price is , say £500 upwards then save yourself the bother and look for one already on the UK roads and that has an existing track record. There's a nice 350 up for grabs at the moment at only £850 for example.}----------------- http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q171 ... /001-8.jpg ----------------- I see that your bike is "unused", and that you are new to the make as well---and no dealer warranty or support don't forget. My honest advice ?? WALK AWAY FROM IT & spend your money more wisely.

I think Alan is probably right. You can register it in the UK, if you go to the DVLA website you should find the instructions there but be aware it will have to pass a Single Vehicle Approval test which can be quite hard. You will need to make sure the lights, tyres, mirrors and other parts conform to EU approval and possibly do other work (making petrol cap flush to tank, not difficult but a pain,) as well. Unless it's dirt cheap don't bother. You could try Price Parts, they usually have a selection of UK registered Bullets like this one as they'll do the work for you. There are loads of these bikes optimistically imported by people who don't do any research first, as well as dreadful Indian fakes so don't get caught, feel free to come back with more questions!

Speaking as a person who have actually Registered an imported Enfield, I can say only this:

It all depends on the price of the bike in question. My 1999 Lightning was effectively brand new (Only 127KM on the clock) and kept in dry storage for its entire life. It cost me £1500 delivered. Since it was over 10 years old, it didn't require the MSVA test, just an MOT and a final inspection by the local DVLA Office (who were only interested in the speedo). So, that's the cost of the bike, The Dating Certificate from the Royal Enfield Owners Club, the MOT, the Insurance, the Tax Disc and the £55 Registration fee. In your case, you may have to spend a fair chunk of cash preparing the bike for the MSVA test. Then there's the other expenses on top. Suffice to say, if my Lightning was under 10 years old and it had to go through the MSVA test, I wouldn't have paid £1500 for it.
