What constitutes a 'set' of spanners?

Just received a 'bunch' of super slim spanners, and some of the larger sizes are confusing me.

I always thought that the larger end was repeated on the the smaller end of the next spanner size up?

Well, my Superslim BSW/BSF start off like that as shown below (BSW markings)

1/8W - 3/16W

3/16W - 1/4W

1/4W - 5/16W

5/16W - 3/8W

3/8W - 7/16W

7/16W - 1/2W

But then it seems to go out of the window... I do have the continuation (almost)

1/2W - 9/16W

9/16W - 11/16W (fits rear wheel nut)

but there are also some odd ones?

1/2W - 5/8W (I got two 1/2W ends already?)

9/16W - 11/16W (I also got two 9/16W ends already?)

Then there is...

11/16W - 3/4W

Is this how superslims go, or have I got a right mix up?

I was rather expecting to see...

9/16W - 5/8W

5/8W - 11/16W

In there somewhere, but they don't seem to exist?

Is there an engineering reason for these unexpected sizes that don't seem to follow the pattern i.e. 9/16W - 11/16W and 1/2W - 5/8W ?

I meant to ask, Have I got a set of spanners, or half a set with some odd ones thrown in?

Thanks Papasmurf, that does help with size comparisons!

I beg to differ with Craig... ".Any Spanner Set is the "One With Every Spanner You Need"

That is what I would call a toolkit (especially for a bike)

I think a spanner set would be one with every spanner there is, including the ones that you never use!

I inherited my Grandfathers spanner set but some of them are from my Great Grand father my King Dicks fit like a glove but I had to order the socket for the head nuts , British cycle thread fits perfect , I have a non metric 1995 Bullet export 500 , metric is evil .
