On the Classic 350 there are three brass nuts under the engine sump and oil tank. I have removed the two plugs on the right hand side, which have gauze strainers on them. I assume the forward one is the sump drain, and the second one the oil tank drain, but what is the third one aft of the other two in the centre of the sump? Do I need to remove that one too, to drain the oil properly (I have drained the timing chest). I'm sure I have seen a photo of the underside somewhere, but I can't find it now.

The two with filters on are the feed and return for the oil pump. Yes, you need to remove the third one to drain the tank.

Thanks for that - more water than oil came out of that one! Plenty of long runs this summer I think.

Do you really mean more water than oil? If so, you really need to do longer runs or change the oil more regularly.

About 5 years ago a drained over a pint of water from my 500E/S. At least you got the water out, probably better that than running on "mayo".
