Hi all. I could do with some help with some issues following removal of the headlight casquet. I replaced it with an alloy head stock which left me with the job of removing all the plastic multi way connectors by soldering and heat shrinking then into one loom all done. It also means that the ignition switch is removed. I was going to remove the key ignition and replace it with a simple switch where I didn't need a key. However by shorting the wire together that I thought were connected together in the original ignition switch I am not getting a spark. I could do with a wiring diagram or a second opinion of what wires are connected together at switch on. Depending on what configuration I connect the ignition wires I do get 12v at the coil but it gets very hot with no spark My bike is a 2009 350 trials. Any help appreciated. Cheers Nick

Thanks Chris, I now have a downloaded picture from Scalyback. I did also pick up from another post that the 4 wire ignition switch (not in Scaly's picture) only requires 2 of the wires to be connected to get a spark. The post even went on to say that the other 2 lines were terminated in the loom. However, if I connect my other 2 wires it suppresses the spark somehow.
Any how got a spark late last night so - on with the rebuild.

Is it an efi/unit construction engine (and hence wiring)?

PS only asking cos you says its a 2009 bike... I might have some generic suggestions to try if so

Hi, I did just this a couple of weeks ago, I rewired the whole bike from scratch though. The ignition switch has four wires. one pair (Normally open, closed when ignition key on) goes from battery to the ignition controlled live circuit, this one you need to make the bike work, the other pair are normally closed, and open when the key is on. this circuit connects earth to the negative side of the coil. it is a security measure to stop someone walking up to a bike with a battery and 2 croc clips, put the earth to earth, the live to something on the live circuit and the bike could start.

Shane/Michael, thanks for your help. The bike is running fine now after a bit of fettling of the points. I have just a few more things to finish and it should be back on the road ready for the summer.
