When I bought my Bullet 'sixty 5' it blew smoke from where the exhaust fits into the head. Upon removing the exhaust system I found the pipe was a loose fit into the head. I've now re-fitted it with some packing made from a thin strip of a beer can. It's still not a tight fit but better than before. Will this be good enough or should it be a very tight fit? Will the gap close up when it gets hot? Should I use the black silicon sealer instead?

Oops. I suspect it should have a copper ring seal.

It's just a push fit but can be very successfully sealed with ordinary bathroom silicon sealer. I know it sounds unlikely but it does work. Just make sure everything is clean before assembly.
